Apple is no longer expected to hold a special event in March, as the company announced a new yellow color for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in addition to a new spring-themed refresh to its iPhone silicone cases and Apple Watch bands.
Earlier rumors suggested an Apple event to take place as early as January to debut its hotly-anticipated VR headset, dubbed “Reality Pro”, with a more in-depth reveal aimed at developers in WWDC. However, the plans never came to fruition, as Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the headset is still plagued with issues such as overheating and with some features still being “finicky in testing”. Gurman now expects the headset to be fully showcased to the public and developers alike at WWDC in June.
Another extensively rumored device is the 15-inch MacBook Air. Details on this device’s specs are much less clear, however, with rumors ranging from an M2 and M2 Pro configurations or launching with an all-new M3 chip. Reports are also in conflict regarding a concrete release date for the device, with rumors roughly suggesting a release date between April and the summer. An unveil at WWDC makes the most sense, following the unveiling of the current 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip during the 2022’s edition of the developer’s conference.

The Mac Pro with Apple silicon has been rumored to be released for quite some time now, as it is the last remaining Mac that Apple sells with an Intel processor. Gurman no longer expects the new Mac Pro to launch with an “Extreme” variant of the M2 owing to increased manufacturing costs and Apple’s skepticism of low demand. Instead, the device is now expected to launch with the M2 Ultra with up to 24-core CPU and 76-core GPU in a design similar to the latest 2019 model. The 2019 and the infamous 2013 models were both announced at WWDC. However, Apple may opt to announce the new Mac Pro ahead of the new MacBook Air so as to not release a product based on the seemingly older M2 alongside the new M3 chip.
Ultimately, Apple may not hold a spring event in March after all. The new Mac Pro seems to be less ambitious than previously thought with the same design as the 2019 model, non-user-upgradeable unified memory, and no M2 “Extreme” chip. It would make sense for Apple to announce the new Mac Pro in a press release, with the all-new 15-inch MacBook Air with M3 and “Reality Pro” VR headset poised to be unveiled at WWDC.
