Springtime yellow!

Quick Hits
  • Not Apple's first yellow phone or product
  • Spring accessories refresh also includes a silicone MagSafe case for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus in Canary Yellow
  • Other spring accessories include Watch bands and and AirTag accessories

Apple’s new yellow iPhone 14 and 14 Plus are out for review, and seeing them in the wild like that brings a few other iconic yellow products to mind: a buttercup yellow Volkswagen Beetle, and the yellow Vespa. Among the yellow phones, while the iPhone 11, XR, and 5C also came in the color, the most remembered one is perhaps the Nokia Lumia.

Coldplay’s song, “It was all yellow” also comes to mind, and therefore this new iPhone is sure to cement itself in history as one of the more popular iPhone colors. At the very least, in terms of brand recall, if not actual sales.

Up until now, the spring refresh colors have been beautiful, going from purple for the iPhone 12 to the gorgeous green hues for the 13 series, and now the yellow. The color sure steps away from what one would call subtle and invites the attention of anyone who sees it. While one cannot call this yellow a loud color, it makes its presence felt.

iPhone 14’s impressive glass back flaunts a shiny yellow, while the camera square retains the usual frosted look and the frame is a color-matched matte. The color shifts in the light it gets, appearing slight sometimes and bright, almost lemon-like the other times.

On the sprawling 6.7-inch glass back of the iPhone 14 Plus, the yellow shines in a whole new light. For anyone looking to update to a fun color, yellow is definitely something to check out.

Calling this the Lemonade iPhone now

Apple adds yellow to the available range of Purple, Blue, Starlight, Midnight, and (PRODUCT)Red. iPhone 14 and 14 Plus in yellow retain the notch to store the Face ID equipment and iPhone 13 series’ A15 Bionic chip as the rest of them. The change only comes in the color and everything internally is the same as the usual iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

Pre-orders for the new color begin today, March 10 and it will be available on March 14. iPhone 14 is available starting at $799 and iPhone 14 Plus for $899. Both phones start at 128GB of storage and go all the way up to 512GB.

Yellow is a tricky color to get right; there is a “too much” element to it, making it a great choice for slighter splashes. But the iPhone’s build quality and choice of shade bring pleasant yellows to mind: driving down a lemon tree-laden street in a convertible yellow Bug, in the summer breeze.
