Apple is readying to launch a new updated iMac desktop sometime in the second half of this year, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter.
The company is at the engineering validation testing phase – otherwise known as EVT – in its development for the updated all-in-one desktop, according to the report. Gurman warns, however, that the machines are not launching anytime soon, stressing that they are “not expected to go into mass production for at least three months”.
The new machines – codenamed J433 and J434 – are expected to come with the same 24-inch screen size as the current M1-powered iMac. In addition, Gurman does not expect any new colors to be added to the lineup, as the under-testing machines “also come in the same colors as the current iMac, a palette that includes blue, silver, pink and orange.”

The updated iMac is not expected to feature any appealing design changes, save for minor internal components placement changes and a different manufacturing process for attaching the stand to the iMac’s main chassis.
The new iMac is expected to feature the yet-to-be-announced M3 chip. The chip is expected to be built on TSMC’s new 3 nanometer process, offering considerable performance improvements over the nearly two-and-a-half-year-old M1. The updated iMac is expected to be of the company’s first M3 machines alongside the new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs.
