India is finally set to join countries with Apple retail stores, by being the 26th one with two new stores opening in Mumbai, in April, closely followed by Delhi, reports Economic Times.
The Mumbai store, located in Reliance’s Jio World Drive mall, will span over 22,000 sq. ft. The Delhi store is set to open following Mumbai’s by the second quarter of the year at the latest, and will cover an estimated area of 10,000 sq. ft. in the Select Citywalk mall in Saket.
An executive with knowledge of the matter told ET, “Fitouts are completed for both the stores. In fact, the fitout was completed for the Delhi store ahead of the Mumbai one. But since Mumbai will be the flagship Apple Store in India, it will open first next month. The Delhi one will open soon after.”
The launch date for the Mumbai store will be determined soon, pending the availability of certain senior executives. SVP of Retail and People, Deirdre O’Brien, is set to attend the opening. However, it is unclear whether CEO Tim Cook will be in attendance.
Apple has been planning to open these stores for several years, with plans getting delayed multiple times. The company’s online store has been operational since September 2020. The company has been hiring for its retail stores since the beginning of the year.
