Apple’s upcoming iPhone 15 is set to make the switch from Lightning to USB-C, but reports suggest that only certified cables will be able to take advantage of the faster charging speeds that come with the new port.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that USB-C will enable faster charging for the iPhone 15, with optimized performance, but only when used with Apple-certified cables. The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro models already support up to 20W and 27W of charging speed, respectively, but the iPhone 15 will likely surpass these numbers. However, users will still need to purchase a compatible charger, as Apple does not includes power adapters in the box.

Furthermore, Kuo noted that while all iPhone 15 models will feature a USB-C port, only the Pro models will support USB 3.2 for faster data transfer speeds. The standard iPhone 15 models will have slower USB 2.0, similar to the 10th-generation iPad with its USB-C port.
With the launch of the iPhone 15, Apple is expected to increase shipments of its 20W USB-C power adapter by up to 120%, as users upgrade their chargers to support the new port. However, buyers should take note that not all USB-C cables will work at full performance, and only Apple-certified options will be able to make the most of the new charging speeds.
The iPhone 15 is also set to feature a new design with slightly curved edges, a larger camera bump, and thinner display bezels. While the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes from the iPhone 14 lineup will be retained, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will receive the Dynamic Island, previously only on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
