Wang Wentao, China’s minister of commerce, spoke to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Monday and discussed the company’s business affairs and development in the country, said the commerce ministry in an article quoted by Reuters.
Wang and Cook explored “stabilizing industrial and supply chains”, reads the ministry’s statement. The minister assured Cook that China is prepared to streamline rules and regulations in addition to other systems, providing a less bureaucratic yet services-rich environment in which foreign companies are welcomed to thrive in.
The sit-down with the minister came as Cook attended China Development Forum, his first visit to the country since 2020. Cook spoke at the conference praising Apple’s relationship with China, calling the mutually beneficial entanglement a “symbiotic” one.
