Apple began releasing iOS 16.5 beta 1 (Build Number: 20F5028e) to registered developers today. The new iOS beta comes just one day after the company released iOS 16.4 to the public. A public version of this beta is expected sometime this week.
With iOS 16.4, Apple introduced a new method for developers to install betas. Instead of a beta profile, developers will now be required to sign in on their testing devices using an Apple ID associated with their Apple Developer Program account. Once signed in, new betas will show up under Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.
It remains to be seen what changes Apple plans to include in iOS 16.5. Notably, the company is yet to launch its planned Apple Card high-yield savings account service and a revamped CarPlay experience. iOS 16.5 is a great candidate to finally launch the fintech service, as Apple ramps up iOS 17 development ahead of WWDC.

The latest beta of iOS 16.5 features a refreshed layout for the news app with a total of five dedicated toggles including “Today”, “News+”, “Sports”, “Audio”, and “Following”. The “Audio” and “Sports” options are entirely new with “Search” and “Following” being combined into one just toggle.
Additionally, users can now ask Siri to initiate a screen recording simply by saying “Start a screen recording”. To stop and automatically save a screen recording, users can then ask Siri to “stop screen recording”. If a user triggers a screen recording using Siri, the Dynamic Island animation is slightly different on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max:
Beginning next month, Apple now requires every app to be compiled with Xcode 14.1 or later in order to verify compatibility with iOS 16, iPadOS 16, tvOS 16, watchOS 9, and macOS 13 Ventura.
