Apple today began releasing iOS 16.5 beta 2 to registered developers two weeks after seeding the first beta for the upcoming update to iOS 16. A public version of this beta is expected sometime this week.
So far, iOS 16.5 has brought on a few small changes, including tweaks to Siri and the Apple News and Home app. Starting with the first beta, Siri can now begin a screen recording by readers prompting the digital assistant to “Start a screen recording.” Beta 1 also introduced a refreshed tab layout for the Apple News app, including a new Sports tab. Shared Admins can now add/edit Matter accessories from the Home app.
iOS 16.5 is widely expected to be the last version of iOS 16 as Apple ramps up the development of iOS 17 ahead of its preview at WWDC 2023, happening from June 5 to June 9.
With iOS 16.4, Apple introduced a new method for developers to install betas. Instead of a beta profile, developers must sign in on their testing devices using an Apple ID associated with their Apple Developer Program account. Once signed in, new betas will show up under Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates.
We will keep this article updated with any additional changes that we find in iOS 16.5, including references to new features or unreleased products.
