Nearly 80% of all iPhone users in the US who own a smartwatch prefer an Apple Watch. The findings were shared via a new survey conducted by Counterpoint Research.

The survey results state that around 78% of smartwatch-wearing iPhone users in the US primarily use an Apple Watch. Google Pixel users closely followed the numbers reported by their iPhone-wielding peers—71% of Pixel users who also own a smartwatch state that they own Google’s Pixel Watch. However, Samsung users severely lagged behind, with only 40% stating that they would use a Galaxy Watch as their smartwatch of choice.

Counterpoint Research indicates that Apple sold one Apple Watch for every three iPhones in Q4 2022, helping the company capture 56% of the US smartwatch market in 2022. On the other hand, Samsung roughly sold one Galaxy Watch for every ten Galaxy smartphones in the same period.

According to the survey, the top three most-used smartwatch features are health tracking, notifications management, and connectivity in the form of messaging and calling. More than 70% of surveyees stated that they are “very satisfied” with their smartwatch, with a further 82% saying that they wear their device daily.

The survey also found that 59% of users bought their current smartwatch in the last 12 months, with only 14% owning their current device for more than two years. Nearly half of all surveyees plan to buy a smartwatch within the next year, and only 16% plan to buy their next device more than two years from now. 77% of all respondents prefer the Apple Watch, irrespective of their smartphone brand.

Users willing to spend more than $500 for their future smartwatch were double those who already paid the same amount for their current device, indicating possible future growth for smartwatches’ ASP.
