Apple has allegedly delayed plans to release an Apple Watch equipped with a microLED display to the second half of 2025 at the earliest. DSCC CEO Ross Young reports the new development in a tweet seen by Supercharged.

Young’s tweet simply states that the microLED Apple Watch has “already been pushed out” to the second half of 2025. Earlier market consensus expected at least one Apple Watch model – presumably the Ultra – to debut with Apple’s first commercial microLED display offering in 2024.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reported that Apple is working on its own in-house displays based on microLED. Gurman previously anticipated the shift to commence with the Apple Watch Ultra in 2024. Apple’s ultimate goal is to expand microLED technology to the iPhone and other products.

Young’s tweet indicates that Apple’s plans may have been pushed back by at least one year. Gurman similarly warned that Apple’s 2024 plans for a microLED Apple Watch “could slip” to 2025, which now seems to be the case. Gurman also warned that plans for a microLED-equipped iPhone would take “years” to materialize.
