Apple has provided updated iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 adoption rates for the iPhone and iPad ahead of WWDC 2023, where the company is expected to announce iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 as part of its keynote.
Per the App Store support page, iOS 16 now runs on 90% of all iPhone models released in the past four years, or 81% of all iPhones currently in use. 8% of users with iPhones released in the past four years are still using iOS 15, or 13% of all activated iPhones.
On the iPad side, iPadOS 16 is installed on 76% of all iPads released in the same four-year timeframe as the figures reported for iOS and iPhones. iPadOS 16 represents 71% of all iPads currently in use, whereas iPadOS 15 is running on 18% of all iPads released in the last four years and 20% of all activated iPads regardless of their release date.

The reported numbers are accurate as of May 30, according to Apple. The company’s latest adoption numbers prior to this date were on February 14, when iOS 16’s adoption rate stood at 81% of all iPhones released in the last four years and 72% of all activated iPhones. Similarly for the iPad, iPadOS 16 was installed on 53% of all iPads made in the last four years and 50% of all activated iPads.
WWDC 2023 will kick off at 10 a.m. PDT on Monday, June 5, at Apple Park in a live-streamed prerecorded event. The first betas of iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, in addition to other announced software, will be available a few minutes after the keynote is over before shipping to all eligible devices in the fall.
