Apple has announced that invoking Siri on the iPhone will be simpler and faster.
As part of WWDC, Apple revealed a shorter command to invoke the virtual assistant. The new command is simply saying “Siri,” abandoning the prefix “Hey” used for almost a decade.
This change is part of a series of improvements to make Siri more intelligent, functional, and faster in responding to its users. Apple has had to accelerate new features for Siri in response to the rise of other artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT or Google’s Bard.

The new way to invoke Siri will arrive as part of iOS 17, the operating system that Apple also announced today and that will soon be available to developers and the general public later this year. Apple also said that Siri is now capable of following up on a query without having to say its name again to invoke it.
The “Hey, Siri” voice command debuted in 2014, three years after the virtual assistant was introduced to the public alongside the iPhone 4S. Before this hands-free feature, users had to press the physical home button to invoke the virtual assistant. With the release of the iPhone 6 series in 2014, Apple eliminated the need to press a button to ask questions or request help from Siri.
