Apple has revealed the new Mac Studio with M2 Max and the just announced M2 Ultra chip during its keynote at WWDC 2023. The new Mac Studio starts with a binned M2 Max chip with a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU for $1999; an additional $200 brings the full-performance 12-core CPU and 38-core GPU for $2199. Unified memory starts at 32GB in both models; doubling to 64GB costs an additional $400, or 96GB adds $800. Apple reports that the M2 Max in Mac Studio is up to 50% faster than the previous generation Mac Studio in Adobe After Effects and 25% faster at compiling apps in Xcode.

The M2 Ultra Mac Studio starts with 24-core CPU and the 60-core GPU at $3999, with the 76 core GPU adding an additonal $1000 to the price. All Mac Studio M2 Ultra models feature 32 Neural Engine cores. Memory starts at 64GB on the M2 Ultra models, with 128GB and 192GB options available. Apple claims that M2 Ultra is 3x faster than the previous generation M1 Ultra in Octane rendering, and 50% faster at video processing in DaVinci Resolve.

In addition to the M2 generation chips, the Mac Studio gains the newer Bluetooth 5.3 for peripheral connectivity, Wi-Fi is upgraded from Wi-Fi 6 to 6E (802.11ax), and the HDMI 2.0 port is replaced with HDMI 2.1, allowing 8k at 60Hz or 4k at up to 240Hz, along with multi-channel audio. Mac Studio with M2 Ultra now supports up to six Pro Display XDRs driving over 100 million pixels.

As with the previous generation, the Mac Studio features four rear Thunderbolt ports, two rear USB-A ports, a 10GB Ethernet port and a high-impedance headphone jack, as well as an SDXC card port and pair of USB-C ports on the front, with these being uprated to Thunderbolt in the Ultra variant. Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra is available to order from June 5, 2023 and ships on June 13.
