The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature a new three-stacked sensor and a 48-megapixel camera, among other new features for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to analyst Jeff Pu from investment firm Haitong International Securities.
In an investor’s note seen by Supercharged, Pu reiterated his past predictions for the next iPhone series, including details on what customers can expect from new camera and performance features. Pu’s predictions remain primarily unchanged from the past, with the main expectations for the iPhone 15 lineup being:
- The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature a 48-megapixel camera with three-stacked sensors. The 48-megapixel sensor first appeared on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and will now appear on all models of the next iPhone lineup.
- The iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a new periscope lens, allowing for improved optical zoom. The smaller high-end iPhone 15 Pro will not feature a periscope lens.
- Pu expects improved RAM performance for the iPhone 15 lineup, likely benefiting from higher capacities on the Pro models and an upgrade to faster LPDDR5 memory for the entry-level devices.
- Apple’s next-generation A17 Bionic chip will only be found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, Pu reiterated in his note today, continuing a precedent set last year. The A16 Bionic chip based on the 4nm process from the iPhone 14 Pro will power the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
In his note today, Pu also predicted that the iPhone 15 Pro Max might see a price increase. Pu attributes this rise to an “ASP over volume” or average selling price over volume approach. The iPhone 15 series is expected to boost Apple’s shipments by around 11% year-over-year in the final quarter of 2023, according to the analyst.
