Apple today announced several improvements to its Self Service Repair program, including expanding it to more devices and components, in addition to making it easier to use the System Configuration process post-repair.

Firstly, Apple is adding more eligible devices to its Self Service Repair program. The iPhone 14 lineup, 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip, and MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and M2 Max will be available for Self Service Repair starting from June 21. Additional parts will also be available through the program, namely the TrueDepth camera and top speaker components on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups, in addition to M1-equipped Mac desktops. Apple says these parts and Mac desktops will join Self Service Repair in many countries including the US, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the UK.

In addition, Apple is making it easier to use System Configuration for iPhone repairs. Now, users will be able to run System Configuration on their own by placing the repaired devices under Diagnostics mode and following onscreen instructions. Previously, users had to contact the Self Service Repair support team to finalize this repair system, which is no longer necessary. Apple notes that users will still be able to contact the support team if they need any further assistance.

System Configuration authenticates and serializes original Apple parts after the repair is completed. The process also calibrates the spare parts to guarantee their optimum performance. Additionally, System Configuration is also used to link repaired Touch ID or Face ID parts to the iPhone’s Secure Enclave.
