Meta’s new microblogging social network, aptly named Threads, is set to be released earlier than anticipated at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time today.

As we previously covered and to no one’s surprise, the new app is likely to be another user data honeypot from Meta, just like Facebook and Instagram. As listed in the App Store, Threads collects every category of user data as permitted by iOS.

It’s nevertheless daunting and exhilarating to see another social media platform on the block. Most users are certainly starting to feel social media platforms fatigue, yet the mass exodus of users flocking to the likes of Mastodon and Bluesky after the tumultuous management of Twitter under you-know-who proves that there might be space for yet another microblogging platform.

It’s too early to tell if Threads will succeed, but if someone can pull off serious competition to Twitter, it’s probably a platform that already boasts over 1 billion monthly active users. Are you excited to give Threads a try?
