In what is becoming an increasingly public battle between two mega tech giants, Twitter on Wednesday sent a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg threatening to sue the company over its launch of the new platform Threads, reports Semafor.

In a letter sent to Mark Zuckerberg from Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro, Twitter accuses Meta of engaging in “systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property” over the launch of its Twitter competitor, Threads. Spiro goes on in the letter to state that Twitter will not hesitate to pursue legal action, including a lawsuit.
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” Spiro wrote in a letter obtained exclusively by Semafor. “Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.”

Twitter is also accusing Meta of hiring former Twitter employees who had used their continued access to the company’s trade secrets to assist in the creation of Threads. A Meta source told Semafor that “no one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee” and called the accusations baseless.
