Twitter is ramping up testing of a new profile customization feature for Twitter Blue subscribers that will allow users to hide their blue checkmark from their account, a hallmark feature of the Twitter Blue subscription.
Twitter has been toying around and working on the feature for several weeks, with testing seemingly ramping up. Supercharged contributor Lucas has found evidence of the new feature on Twitter for the web under a new section called “Profile Customazation.” In the new section, Twitter will allow users to hide their likes, subscriptions, and blue checkmark.
The blue checkmark has sparked jokes in some corners of the platform, with users mocking some Twitter Blue subscribers for paying for the subscription to gain the previously elusive blue checkmark. Once it rolls out in the coming weeks, the new toggle will, in theory, allow users to anonymously subscribe to Twitter Blue without others knowing, except for when they use features such as editing tweets or long-form posts.
The blue checkmark is a hallmark feature of the Twitter Blue subscription and is part of Twitter CTO Elon Musk’s plan to fight spam and bots on the platform while also creating a sustainable, long-term business model. Whereas previously only users with notability were gifted with the blue checkmark, users who subscribe to the platform’s $ 8-a-month plan can get verified.
Alongside a blue checkmark, Twitter Blue offers other perks, including the ability to edit tweets up to 1 hour after they’re published, prioritized rankings in conversations and search, in-app customization for the navigation bar and icon, and more.
