Apple will reportedly commence mass production of a new generation of AirTag in late 2024, according to a new rumor by reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a tweet shared earlier today, Kuo predicts that the next-generation AirTag will enter production sometime in the fourth quarter of next year. The analyst also expects the refreshed AirTag model to sport better integration with Apple Vision Pro, as Apple focuses on spatial computing to be its next big ecosystem.
Today’s rumor is the first indication of Apple working on an updated AirTag, first announced in April 2021. While details of the new wireless location tracker remain scant, it is likely that it will carry a new generation of a U-series chip for even more accurate location tracking powered by the ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless protocol. Kuo earlier reported that the iPhone 15 might launch with a new “U2” chip, lending to the credibility that the new AirTag generation could also be built around the new purported chip.
