Apple recently announced that it is working on a new untitled docuseries featuring Argentinian football superstar Lionel Messi. The new docuseries will provide ” exclusive behind-the-scenes access” to Messi making his debut in the US-based Major League Soccer (MLS) and Leagues Cup after joining Inter Miami CF.
The new series joins another documentary first announced in June, which followed Messi as he navigated his rich country career with the Argentinian national team, exploring his five FIFA World Cup appearances and culminating with his dramatic World Cup win in Qatar in December 2022 over France. Both docuseries remain untitled without an announced release date so far. The documentaries will provide never-seen-before interviews with Messi’s teammates, coaches, and rivals, in addition to exclusive and intimate interviews with Messi himself.
The new docuseries will consist of six episodes and produced by SMUGGLER Entertainment, with award-winning producers Tim Pastore, Patrick Milling Smith, Brian Carmody, Matt Renner, and Scott Boggins. SMUGGLER Entertainment will produce ten episodes in total for Apple, with four episodes for the first World Cup-focused series and six episodes for the MLS documentary.
With these docuseries, Apple is looking to further capitalize from its decade-long streaming deal with the MLS. The MLS Season Pass on Apple TV+ provides fans in 100 countries with the opportunity to stream all MLS and League Cup games on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV, in addition to a selection of smart TVs and gaming consoles. MLS Season Pass is available as an additional subscription on top of Apple TV+ at $12.99 per month or $79 per season.
