Ford has announced via a press release the hiring of former Apple executive Peter Stern to lead the motor company’s newly formed services division. Stern served at Apple for seven years from 2016 before stepping down in January of this year.
Stern will lead the Ford Integrated Services division, which aims to “create and market valuable software-enabled customer experiences across Ford Blue, Model e and Ford Pro.” Stern will begin his work at Ford with immediate effect, reporting to its President and CEO Jim Farley. Stern will likely spearhead Ford toward generating a bigger slice of its revenue by charging customers for subscriptions that enable additional capabilities within their Ford vehicles such as semi-autonomous driving and additional safety, security, and maintenance services
I love creating new services businesses and this is the perfect chance to do just that. The auto industry is undergoing an unprecedented transformation, from gas engines to electric vehicles and from human to autonomous driving.

At the same time, the basis for differentiation is shifting from the vehicles alone to the integration of hardware, software and services. I’ll be in the middle of something truly historic and am particularly fortunate to do that at Ford, which has been democratizing automotive technology for 120 years and counting.
You couple that with the Ford family’s involvement in the business and commitment to doing the right thing in the long term and this is really where I belong.
Peter Stern
Stern’s title at Apple was VP of Services, being directly responsible for the launch and operation of nearly every service offered by the Cupertino giant, including TV+, iCloud, News+, Apple Books, Arcade, Fitness+, and Apple One. Stern also oversaw marketing for many more Apple services such as the App Store, Apple Card, Apple Pay, Apple Music, Podcasts. and Maps.
Before his shock departure from Apple in January, Stern was seen as an apparent heir to Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services Eddy CueEddy Cue was born in 1964, in Miami, Florida. He is Apple's Senior Vice President of Services and one of the company's most senior SVPs since assuming his current position in 2011. Cue earned bachelor's degrees in computer science and economics from Duke University. In addition to his role at Apple, Cue serves as a member of Ferrari's board of..., ready to assume Cue’s position and responsibility whenever the Apple veteran of 34 years decided to step down. Stern’s position at Ford is likely to be a long-term commitment, closing the door shut for any potential return to Apple.
