- Thunderbolt USB-C cable for iPhone 15 Pro leaked
- The cable has a length of 70cm with a braided black appearance
- Thunderbolt/USB3.2 speeds of up to 20Gbps shown in testing
- Cable allegedly supports 150W power delivery and 4K 60Hz external monitor
The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max have long been rumored to adopt Thunderbolt transfer protocol enabled by the awaited switch to USB-C connectivity, and a new leak from Majin Bu on X purportedly offers a first look at a Thunderbolt-ready cable under testing that is poised to be included in the iPhone 15 Pro’s box.
According to Majin Bu, Apple has been actively testing a braided Thunderbolt-enabled USB-C cable that is set to be exclusively included with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max packaging. A few details of the alleged cable are also provided, including its appearance, length, power rating, transfer speeds, and external display support.
The all-black Thunderbolt cable in question allegedly measures just 70 centimeters in length, which would actually make it shorter than current Apple-made Lightning iPhone cables that stand at one meter. The reported length would also be less than half the length of what is expected of the colorful USB-C cables heading for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, anticipated to measure 1.5 meters.
The braided cable has also been tested with a voltage meter, which confirms its support of USB 3.2/USB4 speeds of up to 20Gbps. The cable allegedly supports power delivery of up to 150 watts, and supports external monitor connections of 4K resolution at a 60Hz refresh rate.
Earlier today, Bu provided a technical hands-on look at colorful USB-C cables heading for the base iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models. Despite that cable bringing on welcomed additions such as an increased length and a braided construction, they are still limited at the archaic USB 2.0 standard with a maximum transfer speed of just 480 Mbps.
