During its “Wonderlust” event today, Apple announced that watchOS 10 will be available to all compatible Apple Watch models on Monday, September 18.
watchOS 10 introduces a complete overhaul of the interface design for the Apple Watch. The tentpole software release now utilizes the entire screen to give users more information right on the Watch face with interactive widgets and Smart Stack. Default Apple apps have been completely redesigned to take advantage of the bigger screens on recent Apple Watch models, including the Ultra.
watchOS 10 also updates the Cycling activity with new metrics and new view for iPhone. For cycling, you can see new metrics with compatible Bluetooth accessories and see cadence, speed, and power while cycling. Once you start the cycling activity on the Apple Watch, a Live Activity appears on the iPhone; which expands into an immersive view of the workout.

Apple is also bringing their ambient light sensor to keep an eye out for time spent in daylight, which is helpful in lowering the risk of Myopia or nearsightedness. Myopia is typically likely to occur in children, but spending time in daylight can reduce the risk of it. Parents can track their Time Spent in Daylight with Family Setup even if their children don’t have an iPhone.
Now you can enable custom workout plans in Apple Fitness+, share contact cards with Name Drop with another Apple Watch, view offline maps, view and hear recorded FaceTime voicemails, and get medication reminders with watchOS 10.
