Apple is introducing two very sought-after changes to help manage and monitor battery health on all iPhone 15 models, according to new information shared by various sources.
Battery Cycle Count
On X, @Tech_Reve was first to claim that Apple is adding a new menu within the Settings app under General -> About section on all iPhone 15 models. The new section titled “Battery” is limited to the iPhone 15 series only, and includes important battery information such as its production date, date of first use, and total number of charge cycles.
The new method is much quicker and more accessible than a previous workaround that involved using generated analytics files under Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and carefully searching for “last_value_CycleCount” stored in the file.
Limit Charging to 80%
Also exclusive to the iPhone 15 series, users can now directly limit the maximum charging level on their iPhone 15 device to never exceed 80%. According to The Verge‘s Allison Johnson, there is a new option under the Battery section in the Settings app that allows users to limit their iPhone 15 from charging past 80%. The new option is placed under Battery Health & Charging under a new Charging Optimization settings pane, and includes the following options:
- Optimized Battery Charging
- 80% Limit
- None
The new option should help users maintain the maximum charging capacity and reduce battery aging of their iPhones down the line. For users who’d still like their devices to charge past 80%, the Optimized Battery Charging is still present which slows down charging to 100% by adapting to the user’s charging habits.
