Apple is actively testing as many as four MacBook models with plans to release them by mid-2024, according to a recent Bloomberg report.
In the latest weekly edition of the Power On newsletter, it is reported that Apple is expected to release two MacBook Pro and two MacBook Air models by the summer of 2024. Engineering work is reportedly more advanced on the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros which are said to be equipped with the next-gen M3 Pro and M3 Max chips. Apple hopes to release the updated MacBook Pro by either early or spring 2024 as they have now reached Design Validation Testing (DVT), a phase followed by mass production.
On the other hand, work on updated 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models is said to be slightly behind that of the MacBook Pro. The under-testing MacBook Airs, expected to be equipped with the M3 chip, are allegedly in the Engineering Validation Testing (EVT) stage, which comes before DVT. As a result, the M3-equipped MacBook Airs are likely to be released slightly after the MacBook Pro, with a release planned between spring and summer 2024.

The planned timeframes for each MacBook line closely match that of the currently available models. Apple announced the M2 13-inch MacBook Air more than a year ago at WWDC 2022, followed by the M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro in January 2023. The 15-inch MacBook Air is the latest MacBook that Apple has released so far a few months ago at WWDC 2023.
Bloomberg‘s report is yet another confirmation that Apple is not ready to announce any new MacBooks this year after Ming-Chi Kuo earlier outlined that the company is no longer expected to reveal new laptops in 2023.
