The just-released iOS 17.2 beta introduces a new “Translate” option for the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button. The new action allows users of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to translate phrases between selected languages instantly.
When users configure the Action button to “Translate,” a long press on this button causes a Translate window to appear. This window captures speech, which is then processed for translation. Spoken text is easily translated from one pre-selected language to another, with the ability to set up predefined translation languages from iOS 17’s Translate app.
As a reminder, Translate supports translations to and from languages that include Arabic, Dutch, English (US and UK), French, German, Italian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.
The Translate option joins nine other choices that are possible configurations for the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button. The most powerful option remains Shortcut, which allows users to select any shortcut they desire that automatically runs when the Action Button is pressed — opening the doors for nearly unlimited possibilities.
