The Journal app is edging closer to an official public release as the app is confirmed to be present as part of the first iOS 17.2 beta 1 that Apple just released today.

With Journal, users can securely and privately jot down and record diary entries of life events throughout their day complete with rich details like photos, music, audio recordings, and more. During its announcement at WWDC 2023, Apple stated that Journal will be available as part of a future update to iOS 17 set to roll out later this year.

Journal is a new iPhone app that helps users reflect on everyday moments and special events in their lives. To help inspire a user’s journal entry, personalized suggestions can be intelligently curated from a user’s recent activity, such as photos, people, places, workouts, and more, and scheduled notifications can help build a journaling habit. With the ability to lock the app, the use of on-device processing, and end-to-end encryption, Journal is built to protect a user’s privacy and ensure no one — including Apple — can access a user’s entries.

Apple

Last year, Apple released iOS 16.2 in December, and it’s likely that the company will follow through with that schedule with the release of iOS 17.2, thus fulfilling its promise of Journal making its way to iPhone users by this year’s end.
