Apple is in the process of readying a catalog of 3D movies on the Apple TV app to be watched on the upcoming Vision Pro headset as first spotted by FlatpanelsHD.
According to the publication, evidence of work on 3D movies has popped up on the Apple TV app as part of the latest tvOS 17.2 beta. Movies that apparently support 3D mode on Vision Pro are highlighted with a new icon in the movie’s metadata that resembles the silhouette of Apple’s first spatial computer with a “3D” mark in the center.
Movies that currently feature the new 3D icon include titles like Jurassic World Dominion, Kung Fu Panda 3, Mortal Engines, Pacific Rim Uprising, Shrek, Minions: The Rise of Gru, Trolls, Warcraft, Everest, The Boss Baby: Family Business, The Secret Life of Pets 2, and many more.

During Vision Pro’s June unveiling, Apple showcased a 3D edition of Avatar: The Way of Water to highlight the entertainment features of the new headset. Apple says Vision Pro can play 2D, 3D, and “immersive” movies and content, including a virtual Cinema Environment that can simulate a 100-foot-wide cinema theater screen.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will allow users to access 3D-ready movies on Vision Pro purchased from the Apple TV app for free or if it will carry a premium over the standard purchase price. The company worked with movie studios to upgrade existing HD movies to 4K resolution for free when the first Apple TV 4K set-top box launched in 2017, suggesting that Apple could reach the same agreement over 3D movies for Vision Pro.
Vision Pro is set to go on sale in the United States early next year starting at $3,499.
