The fourth-generation iPhone SE is strongly expected to be an offshoot of the iPhone 14 design and features, according to information reported by MacRumors.
The publication reiterates that the upcoming iPhone SE 4 will feature an aluminum housing that resembles the base model 6.1-inch iPhone 14. The updated entry-level iPhone carries a D59 internal identifier under the project codename Ghost. According to the report, Apple is set to “finally retire” the near-decade-old iPhone design with massive bezels and the Home button.
The iPhone SE 4 will continue to use the same exact dimensions and flat edge design of the iPhone 14 and not the refined chassis of the newer iPhone 15 lineup, the report adds. Face ID will also make its debut on the iPhone SE since Apple will abandon the Home button and has no plans to incorporate Touch ID into the side button like some iPad models.

Reality Check
Almost all of the information reported today was covered previously by another source. In August, the X leaker @URedditor similarly claimed that the iPhone SE 4 will adopt an iPhone 14-like design with a single rear camera and a USB-C port.
The new iPhone SE will be ever-so-slightly lighter than the iPhone 14 by about 6 grams. In addition, Apple is planning a single back camera to be included on the device, which will reportedly incorporate a 48-megapixel sensor. Like all prior iPhone SE models, the LED flash will still be placed next to the camera.
In addition to the single-camera design, the iPhone SE 4 will differ from the iPhone 14 in two other areas – buttons and connectivity. Apple plans to replace the Lightning port with a USB-C one just like the iPhone 15 lineup. The company will also bring over the iPhone 15 Pro’s Action button to the fourth-generation iPhone SE.
Apple plans to introduce the new iPhone SE sometime in 2025, the report adds based on mass production plans within the company. As a reminder, Apple last updated the current third-generation iPhone SE back in March 2022.
