Apple today announced its intention to begin packaging some Apple silicon chips in the United States as part of an expanded partnership with Amkor. The company will become the first and biggest customer of Amkor’s new facility in Peoria, Arizona.
Apple says that some of its in-house chips will be produced in a nearby Arizona-based fabrication facility owned by TSMC, before sending those chips to be packed at Amkor’s facility.

Apple enjoys a longstanding partnership with Amrok as both companies have worked together for over a decade. Amrok’s packaging technology is already utilized across all Apple products powered by the company’s custom chips, and today’s expansion signifies the strong relationship between Amrok and Apple.
The new facility in Arizona is set to become the largest outsourced advanced packaging facility in the US, with Amrok set to invest nearly $2 billion in the project. Once completed, the facility will directly employ more than 2,000 people.
The major investment comes as part of Apple’s five-year pledge in 2021 to invest over $430 billion in the US economy in the form of supporting advanced manufacturing hubs and facilities. Apple says that it’s on target to meet its goal of supporting American suppliers, investments in data centers, capital expenditures in the US, and other expenditures on domestic fronts.
