As part of its Vision Pro release date announcement today, Apple also revealed more tidbits surrounding its first spatial computer headset. The company revealed how customers are expected to order the optional ZEISS Optical Inserts for those who wear prescription glasses, as well as some additional details on Vision Pro’s battery life.

ZEISS Optical Inserts

Since Vision Pro cannot be used while wearing glasses, Apple came up with a solution for those who require corrective eyewear and would like to purchase and use the headset. The ZEISS Optical Inserts attach magnetically inside the headset in front of its dual 4K micro-OLED displays, and the company will offer two configurations for the accessory.

The most affordable Readers configuration will be available for purchase for just $99, which is significantly cheaper than the most optimistic estimate after Vision Pro was announced last year at WWDC 2023. Apple and ZEISS will also offer a $149 Prescription version where customers will be required to provide their prescription measurements when ordering. Apple notes that the Optical Inserts can only be ordered online and that not all eye prescriptions are supported.

Video Playback Battery Life

Apple also quietly updated the expected battery life of Vision Pro. The company now says that the external battery supports up to 2 and a half hours of video playback in 2D, which is slightly more than the 2-hour battery life estimate that was quoted during Vision Pro’s initial unveiling.

According to the fine print on Apple’s webpage for Vision Pro, the improved battery life is according to tests conducted in November 2023 while watching an offline 2D movie purchased from the Apple TV app with a set Environment. Of course, real-life results will vary on other factors including background tasks and display brightness. Vision Pro will also provide all-day use while directly plugged into a power source.

Customers will be able to pre-order Vision Pro starting from Friday, January 19, at 5 a.m. PST. Sales will begin two weeks later on Friday, February 2 on Apple.com and all Apple Store locations in the United States.
