As Vision Pro edges closer to its market release, more information is being revealed surrounding Apple’s first spatial computer. While technical specs surrounding the headset won’t be completely revealed till it reaches the hands of the public, newly shared information gives us an idea of Vision Pro’s memory capacity and Apple silicon chip configuration.

M2 chip configuration

Apple will likely equip Vision Pro with the highest possible configuration of the M2 chip, according to information sourced by Bloomberg. In a new post on X, it is claimed that the M2 variant powering the headset will come with a 10-core GPU and an 8-core CPU, matching that of the 15-inch MacBook Air. This will be complimented with 256GB of storage as the company announced last week.

The M2 is joined with the all-new R1 chip, which Apple says will handle real-time processing of the headset’s sensors including its dozen cameras, five 3D sensors, and six microphones. This complex system powers Vision Pro’s advanced head, hand, and eye-tracking capabilities. The R1 chip also streams new images to the headset’s displays within 12 milliseconds which is eight times faster than a typical eye blink.

RAM capacity

Vision Pro will likely be equipped with 16GB of unified memory, according to Xcode files seen and reported by MacRumors. The observed files were unearthed with the latest version of Xcode 15.2 and confirmed that the headset comes with a single RAM configuration of 16GB.

The purported memory capacity matches that which came with the Vision Pro development kit, which Apple sent to select developers last year to help them with building visionOS apps in time for the headset’s release. It remains to be seen whether a lower-end configuration with 8GB of RAM will be offered, but that seems unlikely for the time being.

Customers will be able to pre-order Vision Pro starting from Friday, January 19, at 5 a.m. PST. Sales will begin two weeks later on Friday, February 2 on Apple.com and all Apple Store locations in the United States.
