Apple Vision Pro will require a US Apple ID to access certain services

Apple Vision Pro went up for pre-ordering in the United States only today, and the company is imposing serious restrictions on international buyers looking to export the headset and use it abroad.

Apple has explicitly outlined the various restrictions that international buyers are expected to face if they attempt to use Vision Pro in countries other than the US. The company detailed the restrictions in an FAQ section at the bottom of the headset’s pre-ordering page.

According to the FAQ, Vision Pro requires an Apple ID with the region set to the US to access and use the App Store, Apple Music, and TV app. visionOS and Siri on the headset are only available in English for dictation and typing. Customer assistance via Apple Support is also restricted since it will only be accessible in the US. Finally, the company will only accept eyewear prescriptions issued by certified US eyecare professionals, with the ZEISS Optical Inserts shipping to valid US addresses only.

Apple also states that international US travelers will be able to access their content as normal when traveling abroad as long as they have set up their Vision Pro with an American Apple ID. The company is also recommending the use of Travel Mode when flying, which is designed to adapt the headset to “the unique motion of commercial air travel to give you the best experience.”

The FAQ section also confirms that Apple is looking forward to expanding Vision Pro’s international availability later this year. The company is rumored to bring its headset to more markets like the United Kingdom, China, and Canada before WWDC 2024.

Vision Pro can be pre-ordered in the United States starting today. Shipments of Apple’s first spatial computer should reach the hands of customers beginning on Friday, February 2. Customers will also be able to buy the headset from all Apple Store retail locations in the US from that date.
