Apple today unveiled updated models of the MacBook Air featuring the M3 chip, marking a significant update for the popular thin and light laptop series. With the new updates, Apple has also simplified its MacBook Air lineup for customers.

This launch differs from the previous M2 generation, where the 13-inch model received the update first. This time, both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are upgraded simultaneously, offering users a wider choice powered by Apple’s latest silicon.

The most noteworthy change is the discontinuation of the M1 MacBook Air from Apple’s lineup, which debuted in 2020. Apple has also removed the 15-inch MacBook Air with the M2 from the lineup, leaving only the 13-inch model for users wishing to remain with the M2 chip. The MacBook Air lineup is now:

  • 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 or M3
  • 15-inch MacBook Air with only the M3

The new M3 MacBook Air boasts impressive performance gains, with Apple claiming up to 60% faster performance compared to the M1 model. This translates to smoother multitasking, faster content creation workflows, and an overall enhanced user experience.

Additionally, the M3 generation introduces several notable features such as dual external display support, enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity, advanced multimedia capabilities and more.

The M3 MacBook Air is available for customers to pre-order today and will be available for purchase and delivery from Friday, March 8. The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $1,099, whereas the 15-inch model will retail at $1,299. The previous-generation 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip is available for customers starting at $999.
