Apple is planning new accessibility features and settings that could be announced at WWDC 2024 as part of iOS 18 and macOS 15, according to new information sourced by MacRumors.

Firstly, Apple is working on a new iOS 18 accessibility feature tentatively called “Adaptive Voice Shortcuts.” Per the report, this feature will allow users to define a custom spoken phrase to trigger certain accessibility actions. A preselected accessibility setting will be activated once users speak their predefined phrase which is picked up by their device’s microphone running iOS 18 or macOS 15. In theory, Adaptive Voice Shortcuts could be used to trigger accessibility options hands-free.

Apple is planning additional improvements to the Live Speech feature it introduced with iOS 17, the report adds. With iOS 18, users will be able to create custom phrases and categories, with users being able to make custom phrases and add them to personalized categories. These categories can further be tailored with user-selected names and one out of 20 icons.

Support for custom font sizes via the Text Size accessibility setting will be expanded to more first-party apps with macOS 15. With macOS Sonoma, the feature is currently supported on the Calendar, Finder, Mail, Messages, and Notes apps. Custom font sizes on macOS 15 are said to be expanded to Books, News, Stocks, Tips, and Weather. Apple is also testing the ability to change the font size on the menu bar.

Beyond accessibility settings, Apple has big things in store for iOS 18 and macOS 15. The company is planning to incorporate generative AI features across the board that could span Siri, Messages, Spotlight Search, Apple Music, Xcode, and more. iOS 18 is also said to introduce considerable UI design changes across the board, with these changes said to make the update one of the biggest in iPhone’s history.
