Apple today began distributing the first beta for iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 to registered developers. iOS 17.5 beta 1 comes a few weeks after the company issued iOS 17.4 to the public. A public version of this beta is expected sometime this week.

iOS 17.5 is unlikely to bring forward any notable changes to the iPhone as Apple shifts focus on iOS 18, which should revealed in around three months at WWDC 2024. iOS 18 is rumored to bring generative AI features across the board in addition to design changes for what is described as the biggest iOS update in years.

As revealed a few weeks ago, Apple will enable developers to distribute their apps directly from their websites without requiring users first to install an alternate app marketplace. Apple said this feature will roll out with a future update that could be iOS 17.5. This feature will be limited to iPhone users residing in the European Union as part of the Digital Markets Act (DMA).

How to install iOS 17.5 beta 1

Last year, Apple introduced a new method to install betas. Now, devices enrolled with a linked Apple Developer Program account or those who signed up with their Apple ID on Apple Developer will see a new menu under Settings -> General -> Software Update that allows users to opt into receiving beta updates. Devices that aren’t enrolled and linked to an Apple Developer account won’t see the menu and therefore aren’t able to install any new beta.

We will keep this article updated with any additional changes that we find in the first beta of iOS 17.5, including references to new features or unreleased products.
