Apple plans to add new functionality to the iOS 18 Notes app that will include more robust support for in-line voice memos in addition to mathematical notations and equations, according to a new report by AppleInsider.
Per the report, Apple is poised to introduce notable changes to the Notes app once iOS 18 is unveiled in June at WWDC 2024. The new iteration of the app will allow users to record voice memos directly within Notes without the need to navigate to the standalone Voice Memos app. The feature will also empower users to “record, save, and play audio recordings” directly within the app.
Voice recordings within the planned iOS 18 Notes app will be stored in individual entries, allowing users to type text or add images next to the voice notes if they so desire. Voice memos recorded within the iOS 18 Notes app will also sync to other devices through iCloud, with AppleInsider adding that the feature is also planned for the Notes version of iPadOS 18 and macOS 15.

The report adds that Apple is working to add what is referred to as “Math Notes” with the iOS 18 version of the app. The new feature is said to integrate heavily with the Calculator app, allowing iOS 18 Notes to more robustly support and display mathematical equations and notations. Math Notes will also be accessible from the Calculator itself through a dedicated button, and the feature coincides with a planned redesign for the Calculator app on macOS 15, the report adds.
Beyond the updates Notes app, it’s all but confirmed that Apple will bring forward a slew of new AI-based features across the board with iOS 18, macOS 15, and more at WWDC 2024. Apple aims to introduce AI capabilities within every corner of iOS 18 as the company has largely remained silent features-wise on today’s AI frenzy that has swept the market.
Look out for AI-powered features spanning Siri, Messages, Spotlight Search, Apple Music, Xcode, and more. iOS 18 is also said to introduce considerable UI design changes across the board, with these changes said to make the update one of the biggest in iPhone’s history.
