Apple is now reporting that it has over 138 million users in the EU who regularly accessed the App Store as of March 2024. Apple revealed the number in its latest DSA Transparency Report, which is required by the European Union under the Digital Services Act (via iGeneration).
The DSA Transparency Report is accurate as of Thursday, March 28. It is a new requirement by the EU that illegible companies are required to delve into certain statistics related to their digital services. The report reveals various aspects regarding Apple’s efforts in moderating content offered through the App Store and other services, including a count of steps taken to deal with illegal content and other complaints.
The most important statistic revealed by the report is a detailed breakdown of the number of monthly users who access the App Store in Europe. The figures are broken down in terms of EU member states and showcase that Germany and France are the two biggest App Store markets for Apple in the continent. There are now over 30 million monthly App Store users in Germany and around 25 million in France. Other countries with a sizable number of App Store users include Italy and Spain, with 15 million and 12 million users respectively.

As noted by iGeneration, the March 2024 statistics represent a growth of around 7 million users compared to the last Transparency Report published in September 2023. France, Spain, and Italy each added one million users during that period, whereas Germany gained two million new users. According to Apple, the rest of the EU maintained the same number of App Store users on average between September 2023 and March 2024.
The next DSA Transparency Report should be released around September when the DSA requires Apple to release an updated report every six months. It remains to be seen whether the company will be able to add that many new users as demand for the iPhone continues to weaken worldwide.
