Mass production for displays designated for the iPhone 16 Pro is closer than ever as Apple has reportedly approved plans to begin manufacturing, reports The Elec.
Samsung Display and LG Display are both set to produce iPhone 16 Pro displays. Both companies also supply OLED panels for the newly released iPad Pro. The Elec notes that this is the first time that LG Display gets approval from Apple this early to produce iPhone OLED panels, as the company has historically ramped up production several months behind Samsung.
The report notes that the approval is only for the 6.1-inch iPhone 16 Pro and that Samsung and LG are yet to gain consent from Apple to begin manufacturing 6.9-inch OLED displays for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Samsung is set to supply panels for the entire iPhone 16 lineup, whereas LG will be limited to the iPhone 16 Pro range. BOE could also enter the supply chain mix, handling display production for the base iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

The iPhone 16 Pro is expected to boost a 6.3-inch display, slightly larger than the 6.1-inch panel of the iPhone 15 Pro and older iPhone generations. The Elec adds that this year’s iPhone could feature slimmer bezels. Approval to begin mass production of the iPhone 16 Pro Max display could arrive for Samsung at the end of this month and for LG by mid-June.
Apple is set to announce the iPhone 16 lineup as usual in September. The base iPhone 16 models are rumored to gain a new camera module design, while the Pro lineup will gain larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays. All devices are set to feature a new “Capture button” for easier camera settings control.
