Apple is expected to announce the first major update to visionOS at WWDC 2024 just four months after Vision Pro went on sale. The new visionOS 2 update will address many software shortcomings for the headset instead of focusing on completely new features, reports Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
visionOS 2, codenamed ‘Constellation,’ will feature smaller yet important changes throughout the system, turning Vision Pro into a more complete product. Rumored features include new immersive Environment scenes and more native built-in apps rather than ported iPad versions that run in compatibility mode. Additionally, the new Passwords app coming in iOS 18 and macOS 15 will have a native visionOS 2 counterpart.
Earlier in May, Apple unveiled that Live Captions in FaceTime will be available in visionOS 2 as an accessibility feature. Other well-being features could also be in tow, as unearthed code found by MacRumors indicates that the Mindfulness app could add a respiration tracking feature.
visionOS 2 could also expand language support in preparation for Vision Pro’s international launch, which could be formally announced at WWDC. Hidden code suggested that Apple is working to add a dozen new languages for Vision Pro’s virtual keyboard as the headset’s shipments ramp up in several countries ahead of an expected launch between June and July.
