Apple Vision Pro sales are unlikely to cross 500,000 units this year despite being launched internationally in a dozen new countries beyond the United States as initial demand falters, according to a new market research from IDC and reported by Bloomberg.
IDC says that Vision Pro sales are yet to achieve more than 100,000 units in a single quarter since the headset first became available in the United States in February. More worryingly, sales are expected to drop by 75 percent in the current quarter. Research indicates that Vision Pro’s international launch will partially offset the weakness experienced in the United States, but a serious boom in sales will need a more affordable Vision Pro model that’s not expected to be launched until next year.
In addition to the cheaper Vision Pro, IDC says that the headset’s success will “ultimately depend on the available content.” Expanding the available content on the headset and releasing a cheaper model could help spark Vision Pro sales to reach double what they are achieving today, but such growth will take time.

The sales performance of Vision Pro has been a point of contention ever since the $3,499 headset became available for customers. Despite being off to a solid start and stronger than expected demand, talks of high return rates and comfort issues with the headset began surfacing shortly after users began receiving their Vision Pro units.
