The iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to be the first iPhone with a 48-megapixel telephoto camera, according to a new prediction from the reliable Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new Medium post, Kuo claims that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will add a new 48-megapixel sensor for the telephoto tetraprism lens, making it the first iPhone to feature three 48MP sensors on all of its rear cameras. In addition to a higher megapixel count, the new sensor will be larger, measuring in at 1/2.6 inches compared to 1/3.1 inches found today on the 12MP telephoto sensor on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The bigger sensor is certain to make its way to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while there’s a slim chance it could also be available on the smaller iPhone 17 Pro. In all cases, the 48MP telephoto sensor is sure to be available on all sizes of the iPhone 18 Pro. Kuo expects even bigger upgrades to the telephoto lens on the iPhone 19, which could include a bigger optical zoom range beyond the 5x zoom of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
