Apple continues to work on a foldable iPhone in a clamshell design that could be released as soon as 2026. The company has stepped up prototyping of the device as it enters talks with suppliers to procure components for the foldable iPhone, according to The Information.
Recent reports have suggested that Apple is ramping up its efforts to develop a foldable iPhone, with rumors claiming an eventual release that could materialize over the next few years. Today’s reports claim that Apple has given the drive in question a dedicated prototyping codename under the moniker “V68.” This suggests that work on the device continues to progress, even if it’s not scheduled to publicly debut for the next few years.
In all cases, Apple won’t release a foldable iPhone until it solves the display’s creasing problem, which remains the main issue preventing the company from releasing any device with a foldable screen. While work continues to eliminate the crease, Apple has been in constant talks with suppliers in Asia to provide parts for the folding iPhone.

Today’s report also reiterates that the foldable iPhone will come in a clamshell design, making it similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. A foldable device from Apple with a similar form factor to the Galaxy Z Fold could be heading to an iPad-style device reminiscent of the iPad mini with an 8-inch folding display.
