The mysterious iPhone 17 Slim will largely focus on revolutionizing the iPhone’s form factor rather than introducing high-end specs, according to a new report from the reliable Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new post on Medium today, Kuo states that the iPhone 17 Slim will “emphasize innovative form factor design” rather than having the latest and greatest specifications. As a result of the ultra-slim design of the device, Apple will have to make several concessions when it comes to its performance.
According to Kuo, the iPhone 17 Slim will feature a standard A19 chip rather than the “A19 Pro” variant heading to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Its screen size will measure around 6.6 inches with a similar resolution and Dynamic Island size to the latest iPhone models. The iPhone 17 Slim will continue to use a titanium-aluminium alloy like the iPhone 15 Pro, but the total percentage of titanium in the alloy will be lower.

Apple could also make a huge concession to the iPhone 17 Slim’s camera system, with Kuo claiming it will feature a single rear camera. Some earlier rumors suggested that the device will feature a dual camera system like the non-Pro iPhone models today. Nevertheless, the device’s camera system seems likely to be less capable than that of the iPhone 17 Pro, which is said to feature a triple 48-megapixel system on the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
A big change coming to the iPhone 17 Slim could be the introduction of Apple’s custom 5G modems, a long-rumored project within Apple to lessen its reliance on Qualcomm. Kuo also claims that Apple is accelerating its work on its 5G modems, with the iPhone SE 4 and the iPhone 17 Slim being the first with the new component.
Kuo’s predictions for the iPhone 17 Slim match that of the leaker “Ice Universe” a few days ago on Weibo, who also suggested lower-end specs for the device compared to the iPhone 17 Pro.
