Apple has reportedly pushed back the public release of Apple Intelligence features to the iOS 18.1 update, according to a new report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
Apple Intelligence will no longer launch as part of iOS 18 in September as the company is still dealing with bugs related to the upcoming AI features. Apple Intelligence is now scheduled to launch as part of iOS 18.1 sometime in October. Despite the public launch setback, the company will reportedly release the first iOS 18.1 beta this week with Apple Intelligence, giving developers their first hands-on look at its AI capabilities.
Apple is reportedly concerned with the stability of its AI features, and it hopes that previewing iOS 18.1 several months before its planned roll-out will help resolve bugs and other issues. Developers’ feedback will be paramount to ensure a smooth public release of Apple Intelligence.

The delay also means that users who buy the iPhone 16 lineup once it launches in September won’t get their hands on Apple Intelligence till several weeks after their purchase. This could mean weaker-than-expected sales for the iPhone 16, at least initially, as the company has planned to tout its new AI features as a major selling point for the upcoming iPhone lineup.
As reported earlier, some Apple Intelligence features, like an all-new Siri, are scheduled to be released by early 2025. Nevertheless, Bloomberg adds that it will take Apple several updates to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, spanning late 2024 and the first half of 2025, to fully launch the complete suite of AI features announced during WWDC 2024.
An update to the Apple Developer website several days after the WWDC keynote signaled that Apple Intelligence could begin making its way to developers later than anticipated. Apple silently scrubbed all mentions of Apple Intelligence launching in an iOS 18 beta during the summer, instead saying that the AI features will be available in an upcoming beta without referring to a specific timeframe.
Apple has yet to officially confirm any delays to its planned AI features, but more should become known once new betas for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia launch this week.
