Apple released the first iOS 18.1 beta to registered developers today. iOS 18.1 should enable the first crop of Apple Intelligence features after reportedly being scrapped from iOS 18 and a September release. Apple also released the first beta for iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1.
Version Number: iOS 18.1 Beta 1
Build Number: 22B5007p
Release Date: July 29, 2024
What's New? This first beta of iOS 18.1 enables Apple Intelligence features with limited features for developers to try out.
Earlier this week, a Bloomberg report indicated that Apple Intelligence has reportedly been delayed to the iOS 18.1 update, currently scheduled to be released in October. The report also mentioned that Apple plans to begin issuing iOS 18.1 beta to developers this week in an unusual move, giving developers ample time to test Apple Intelligence features before they launch in October.
Developers can now begin testing some Apple Intelligence features after downloading the iOS 18.1 beta and signing up for a waitlist, with access usually guaranteed within minutes.

Some Apple Intelligence features, like an all-new Siri, are still scheduled to be released by early 2025. Nevertheless, it will take Apple several updates to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, spanning late 2024 and the first half of 2025, to fully launch the complete set of AI features announced during WWDC 2024.
How to install iOS 18.1 beta 1
Last year, Apple introduced a new method to install betas. Now, devices enrolled with a linked Apple Developer Program account or those who signed up with their Apple ID on Apple Developer will see a new menu under Settings -> General -> Software Update that allows users to opt into receiving beta updates. Devices that aren’t enrolled and linked to an Apple Developer account won’t see the menu and therefore aren’t able to install any new beta.
We will keep this article updated with any additional changes that we find in the first iOS 18.1 beta beyond Apple Intelligence, including references to new features or unreleased products.
