Apple plans to procure OLED display panels from LG Display and BOE for next year’s iPhone SE 4, according to a new report from The Elec.
Per the report, BOE will fulfill most display orders for the iPhone SE 4, whereas LG Display will act as a secondary vendor. The iPhone SE 4 is predicted to reuse leftover display panels from the iPhone 13 as the affordable device is set to receive its biggest design change in years.
Apple has been priming BOE to become a primary display supplier for at least one of its products to lessen the Cupertino company’s reliance on LG Display and Samsung Display, which are expected to dominate orders for the iPhone 16 lineup. While it seems that BOE’s display orders for the iPhone SE 4 are locked in, the Chinese company is reportedly struggling to manufacture panels for the iPhone 16 to Apple’s stringent standards.

A previous report stated that Apple was in talks with several display suppliers for the iPhone SE 4 with vendors including BOE, Samsung Display, and Tianma. It now seems that Tianma and Samsung are no longer in consideration with orders instead going to LG and BOE. Apple will reportedly pay a meager price per unit for OLED panels of the iPhone SE 4 as they are being reused from leftover iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 inventory.
The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be strongly reminiscent of the 6.1-inch base iPhone 14 released two years ago. It will be the first iPhone SE to do away with the Home button in favor of Face ID and an all-screen design, and could also be the first iPhone to feature Apple’s custom 5G modems.
