Apple plans to significantly overhaul the design of the upcoming M4 Mac mini, making it the smallest desktop computer the company has ever released, according to a new report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
The new M4 Mac mini is set to be released later this year and will include an option for the beefier M4 Pro chip. Alongside performance enhancements, the new Mac mini will feature the first redesign for the computer since 2010 at less than half the physical size of the current model. The M4 Mac mini’s size will approach that of the Apple TV, albeit standing slightly taller.
The M4 Mac mini will continue to be built from an aluminum housing. Current prototypes feature an array of at least three USB-C ports, an HDMI port, and power input. The base M4 chip model is set to begin shipments from suppliers sometime this month, while the higher-end M4 Pro configuration won’t be shipping until closer to October. Both options are set to be publicly unveiled before the end of the year.
