Today, Apple announced the new iPad mini, featuring the A17 Pro chip and support for Apple Intelligence. The new iPad mini comes with the same 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display as its predecessor and includes full support for the Apple Pencil Pro.
The new iPad mini features the A17 Pro chip, which Apple says is a massive upgrade over the A15 Bionic found in the previous generation. Apple says the A17 Pro boosts the new iPad mini’s 6-core CPU performance by 30 percent. In comparison, the new 5-core GPU supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, Dynamic Caching, and hardware-accelerated mesh shading. It is up to 25 percent faster than the previous generation.
The A17 Pro’s Neural Engine on the new iPad mini gets another massive performance increase, which is now up to twice as fast as the one found on the A15 Bionic and the previous generation iPad mini. Thanks to these advancements, the iPad mini now supports Apple Intelligence, with the first set of features, including Writing Tools, Notifications Summaries, and Clean Up, launching later this month with the iPadOS 18.1 upgrade.
