Apple plans to upgrade the entry-level iPad by late 2025 to include support for Apple Intelligence, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
In the latest edition of the weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman claims that the entry-level iPad will receive a hardware upgrade by late 2025 to support Apple Intelligence. This would be part of the company’s strategy to make every Apple device with a screen compatible with Apple Intelligence by 2026.
The report also reiterates the launch of the iPhone SE 4 in the first few months of 2025, bringing Apple Intelligence support to the company’s most affordable iPhone lineup. The new iPhone SE could also be the first Apple device to feature the company’s custom 5G modem chip.

Almost the entire iPad lineup now supports Apple Intelligence with the introduction of the new iPad mini earlier this week, understandably making the entry-level iPad the last holdout from the company’s AI suite. The device received a significant price cut earlier in May alongside the M4 iPad Pro’s introduction, going from $449 to $349 without any spec changes.
Today’s entry-level iPad runs on the aging A14 Bionic chip that was first introduced on the iPhone 12 lineup in 2020. The A17 Pro is likely still too expensive for the entry-level iPad’s $349 price, forcing Apple to wait until it’s economically viable to upgrade the base iPad with Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Bloomberg‘s report affirms that Apple continues to work on bringing Apple Intelligence support to other devices, including the Apple Watch and Vision Pro. Future product lineups, such as the iPad-like smart home display and tabletop device with a robotic arm, are said to entirely be built around Apple Intelligence.
